Presented by Global MAP Foundation In collaboration with Walter Redondo Fine Art Collection & Megan Bishop
Global MAP Foundation invites youth ages 13 and up to immerse themselves in the world of visual arts through our Intro to Art Discovery Program. This free community initiative is designed to spark curiosity, build confidence, and open pathways to creative expression through drawing, color theory, painting, and fine arts fundamentals.
Introducing young people to art at an early age nurtures imagination, strengthens problem-solving skills, and enhances emotional awareness. Creative practice supports academic development, improves focus, and gives students a healthy outlet for self-expression. When kids learn to translate ideas into visual form, they develop confidence in their voice and perspective—skills that extend far beyond the canvas.
Participants gain hands-on experience guided by professional artists, learn the building blocks of artistic technique, and discover how creativity can shape identity, career aspirations, and personal growth. As their skills develop, the community benefits from the cultural enrichment, innovation, and shared pride that emerge when young people are encouraged to create and showcase their work. The artistic contributions of youth help build vibrant neighborhoods, inspire dialogue, and strengthen community connection.
Event Details The workshop will be followed by a youth art showcase, Q&A session, and live music, offering participants the opportunity to share their creations and connect with peers, families, and local artists. Join us in supporting the next generation of creators—where young minds discover that art is not just what you see, but what you can become.

Inspiring Youth through the power of the brush!
Walter Redondo, born in San Diego in 1958, is a renowned contemporary painter whose life bridges two worlds: elite athletics and fine art. Once the top-ranked junior tennis player in the United States, he competed internationally, including at Wimbledon, and was honored in both the Hall of Champions and the Hall of Fame before returning to the creative calling that began in childhood. A self-taught artist influenced by post-war abstract masters such as Robert Motherwell, Willem de Kooning, Cy Twombly, and Joan Mitchell, Redondo emerged on the San Diego art scene in 1998 with dynamic, emotionally resonant abstract works defined by fluid gesture and layered texture. Over the past two decades, his paintings have been exhibited nationwide and collected globally, while he continues to paint daily in his San Diego studio, expanding the boundaries of abstraction through new series and large-scale works. In 2024, his gallery was recognized by San Diego Magazine as Best Painter and Best Gallery, and his inspiring life journey—from elite tennis to artistic acclaim—is the subject of the upcoming PBS and KPBS documentary Love All, premiering on Hulu, which highlights his perseverance, creativity, and transformative path. Today, his legacy as both champion athlete and celebrated painter reflects an enduring commitment to excellence and the power of passion to shape purpose.
