Youth Med-Surg Discovery

Four hours inside a professional medical environment. Students worked with real heart and lung tissue, practised suturing, ran mock operating-room exercises, used microscopes and learned hands-only CPR. For most of them it was the first time they had held a surgical instrument, and the first time a clinician had spoken to them as a future colleague rather than a visitor.

Taught by practicing physician assistants, nurse practitioners, surgeons and anesthesiologists, volunteering their day.

Intro to Art Discovery

A painting intensive inside a working commercial gallery in downtown San Diego, taught by two exhibiting artists. No experience required and none assumed. The day closed with a show of the students’ own work hung in the gallery, with live music. For most of them it was the first time anything they had made was on a wall.

Three programs are running. Seven are not yet.

Most organizations list every program they intend to run and let you assume they all exist. We would rather be straight with you, because the gap is the point: it is exactly where a sponsor or a funder makes something start.

Speed, Agility & Conditioning is an established program returning as a free Foundation offering. The other six each have a curriculum outline and a professional willing to teach it. What each is missing is materials, a venue and a first cohort — roughly the cost of one workshop.

We announce dates about six weeks ahead and places are limited by how many clinicians and artists we can put in a room. Subscribers hear before anyone else.
